Asbestos remains a serious health risk, even years after its ban. New European and Belgian legislation is tightening the requirements around protection against asbestos exposure — including which respiratory protection is actually sufficient.
The revised legislation places greater emphasis on stricter exposure limits, more advanced measurement methods, correct selection and use of respiratory protection, and training, fit-testing, and safe working procedures.
For professionals in construction, installation, prevention, and occupational health and safety, this means existing procedures need to be reassessed. For actual asbestos removal, a stricter standard now applies: an FFP3 mask is no longer sufficient, and at minimum a PAPR system, such as the RSG Safety T-Air® PAPR, is required.
